Cool Experience In Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill With Even Cooler "The Entertainer" App

The Entertainer

Last Saturday, was invited to a private preview event at Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill (at One Fullerton), in conjunction with the promotion of a cool one-for-one offer app, The Entertainer

I am not so much a foodie myself but I like the ambiance of the Pelican Seafood Bar and Grill, it was located directly opposite the Marina Bay Sands, so, the view overseeing the panoramic view of the lotus shaped ArtScience Museum and the Ship shaped Marina Bay Sands Hotel is breathtaking.

Following are some photos that I've taken from the event :

In conjunction with the upcoming National Day, Pelican Seafood Bar & Grill has an unbeatbale offer for the month of August 2014 : The Entertainer members are entitled to unlimited 1-for-1 Belvedere cocktails when a voucher for a main course is used.

So, what is this The Entertainer app all about? It provides nothing but one-for-one offers for more than 700 of dining, leisure, wellness, entertainment and hotel outlets (from Singapore alone). The business model is very simple, all the offers are one-for-one (in short, up to 50% discount).

What is the catch, you may ask? The Entertainer provides such offer through their annual mobile product (priced at SGD95/- for one calendar year) or one-month mobile product.

So, if you are a foodie or like wellness services like spa, it is a no-brainer that you can save quite a fair bit on your dining expenses just by getting the monthly mobile product.

For example, if you are dining with a partner at Fat Cow, Au Petit Salut Pelican Seafood Bar & Grills or Bedrock Bar & Grill (some examples of The Entertainer Partners), the bill for two person easily come up to $100 (or more). However, if you are using the one-month mobile product which cost you only $19, you need to pay only $69 ($50 [since it is a one-for-one deal] + $19), you are saving $31 just for one dining. Cool right?

How to get the app? You can download the FREE app via iOS, Goolge Play or even Blackberry via The Entertainer.

After you've downloaded the app, register your new account (or log-in via your Facebook credentials) and update the simple profile details. Next, follow the steps below to get your one-month mobile product at only SGD19 (with promo-code @moment) and redeem your one-for-one offers right away.

Click on "Buy" at the top-left hand corner
Select "Entertainer Singapore One Month Mobile"
Click on "Buy Now" at the bottom
1) Enter the Promo-code "@moment" and hit "Apply"
2) Update your credit card details and hit "Purchase Now"
If you want to have a look of the complete list of The Entertainer partners in Singapore before making your purchase decision (fair enough), click here

Presbyopia - No Reading Glass, No Problem!

Coopervision multi-focal contact lenses at Paris Miki
Good News : The following promotion has been extended to 31st October 2014 (Fri)!

Been wearing spec since secondary school time, which was ages ago. With age really catching up fact (I am in my early 40s now), my eye deficiencies are "completed" with the unavoidable presbyopia (老花[lau hua], in Chinese). In fact, my GP told me that when we reached our magic number of 40, most people will automatically be affected by presbyopia.

I knew about the multifocal lenses (or progressive lenses) in the market that can kill two birds (ie the myopia and presbyopia) in one stone but have also learnt from a few colleagues that such lenses might not be suitable for all. Common side-effect could spinning spell.

Thanks to a friend, I get to know about the new daily multi-focal contact lenses from CooperVision called Proclear 1 day Multifocal. Without wasting much time, I went to its partner, Paris Miki at Bugis Junction to get my eye examined and gotten the one-month free trial contact lenses. As the branch has the lenses that suit my myopia-cum-presbyopia degrees, I wear it immediately and went back to work on that day with sharper vision. The best thing is that I have no problem in viewing smaller font articles now on my iPhone/iPad and I can see things, near or far, clearer now.

Can't Wait To Watch Thor - The Dark World

Thor The Dark World
To be frank, prior to the 2011's Thor, I have little knowledge about this muscular, long haired, red cape and constantly with a giant hammer's superhero. After the show, I quite like how Chris Hemsworth portrayed the titular role and also the charismatic and funny villain, Loki (by Tom Hiddleston).

Next week, the sequel, Thor - The Dark World will be released in the cinemas and I can't wait to watch it in 3D (or IMAX 3D).

Come and think of it, what would I do If I have Thor’s Mjölner (the Hammer) for a day? Hmmm... I think I will do the same as what Thor do best! Use it to hammer those ungraceful people around us (first come to the list will be the man spitting on the women countless time at the Woodland Bus Interchange ;-)).

Coursera - The online Gem, Miss It At Your Own Cost!

coursera
Acquiring knowledge is a lifelong journey! We should not stop learning regardless of our age. In fact, it is through ongoing learning that we are trying to defy the ticking clock of age! With the invent of internet, acquiring new knowledge is no longer time consuming or costly. In fact, it is FREE (at times).

Today, I am going to share an online course network called Coursera which provides variety of online courses from various well known Universities (like Northwestern University, Princeton University and Yale University etc..). The courses ranging from Arts, to Biology, to Health, to Information Technology and many more.
Coursera - Understanding Media By Understanding Google
Coursera - Understanding Media By Understanding Google
I am currently taking my very first Coursera course called "Understanding Media by Understanding Google" (via Northwestern University) which is in the final 2 weeks of the course. The courses are usually structured into weekly modules and conducted through video lectures as well as online reading materials (to be provided as links). Of course, different courses from different Universities might be conducted differently but so far I am quite happy with the quality and coverage of the course.

I am giving this network a THUMB UP for those who like to attend university like online courses.

Have you taken the online course from Coursera? What is your review? Feel free to share your view in the comment section.

Enjoy!

When You Are In The Crossroad, What Would You Do?

quotes on crossreoadMany a time, we are at the crossroads (many are unplanned ones) and need to make a decision as to whether to TURN LEFT, TURN RIGHT or just U-TURN. And most of the time, once you've made the decision, there is no way back i.e. you can't turn back and said "Oops! I think I've made a wrong choice, can I choose the other route instead?".

Effectively, life is formed through a series of continuous decisions. We made good decisions, bad decisions and at times no decisions. Sometimes, our decisions might affect others and other times, other people's decisions might impact us.

As mentioned above, "no decision" is also a decision, thus, we are "making" tonnes of decisions, day in day out. Of course, at times we might not even know we are "making" a decision. Some are huge decisions (like getting married, change career path etc...) and some are just routine or minor decisions (like what to eat for lunch? Taking bus or driving to work? etc...).

Today, I am going to talk about making big decision (the real crossroads of your life). The ones that potentially change your life in the next 10-20 years (or even more) time frame. When you are in such crossroad, what would you do?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question! My SIMPLE view is to SLOW DOWN and THINK (before proceed)!

On the THINKING part, pay attention to the following key elements:

1. Resources - Always obtain as much information/resources (pertaining to the options available, their pros and cons etc...) before and during the decision making stage.

2. Support - Support from your loved ones like family and friends are important. Thus, be open to them and share your situation/view with them to obtain their support. Of course, I am not saying that you need to get their approval for your decision. But with the necessary support, it will make your decision making process an easier task.

3. Your Inner Voice - Simply put, this is your gut feeling! Ask yourself : what do you really want?

quotes on crossroad
Quotes on CROSSROAD
The DON'T :

Never, ever rush into making huge decisions (unless it is a life and death situation which requires your immediate attention or decision). Also, pressure and fear might influence your logical thinking, thus, avoid making decision out of pressure or fear.

Lastly, always remember that you (and only you) are responsible to all the decision you made. No decision is worst than bad decison and bad decisions is a good learning points. Thus, you just need to keep going as the future is an endless road...

Are We Appreciating (Favor From Others) Correctly All These While?

We are living in a closely knitted community (offline or online), many a times, we can't avoid providing or receiving helps or assistance from each others. They could be your friends, colleagues or even family members. In fact, reciprocity* is important for effective and meaningful living.

Usually, if we are at the receiving end, we will feel thankful and appreciative. What would you normally do when in such situation? In short, what would you do in appreciating the helps? I guess besides saying zillion times of thank you (if it's a huge favour), you will feel kind of like "owing" the other party something. Whenever there is chance in the future, you will "repay" their kindness. In Chinese, we called it "欠人情".

Of course, this is human nature and I am sure it is the right thing to do. Having said that, is there any other things that we can do to amplify our appreciation (for the helps received)? I for one believed in the concept of "Paying It Forward" and thus would like to share my opinion on this topic.

In fact, talk about Pay It Forward, there was a movie with the same title (by Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Harley Joel Osment) which I like it very much. I recommend it to everyone who are into positive and sharing mindset. Click on the image below for more details of the movie:

Following the spirit of Paying It Forward, instead of focusing on repaying back to the providing party, we can amplify our kindness to another third party by providing them the similar kind of helps/assistance. Thus, the more we are appreciating, the more people will get helped and it will turn into a massive web of reciprocity. Can you imagine what kind of positive energy it will generate at the end (in fact, there will be no end to it)?

Do you agree with me? Feel free to share your view in the comment section.

Cheers!

*Reciprocity is defined as responding to a positive action with another positive action.

Hair For Hope Mission Accomplished ; Hope For Hair Next

Finally! I've gotten my fresh look at the very top.

Yesterday, my maiden participation in the Hair For Hope campaign has come to realization. When I reached the location (Vivo City Singapore) half-an-hour earlier than the registered time, what surprises me are the massive queues. There are 2 queues, one for those pre-registered participants (like me) and the other is for those impromptu candidates.

While in the queue, can share the excitements of fellow shavees in participating in this meaningful cause, especially for those ladies (kudos to their courage). As per the MC, there were about 8,000 shavees (unaudited) participated in this year's event (which is 2,000 more than this year's target). I am proud to be part of this meaningful event.

You know what? The icing on the cake is that I have also able to inspired an online donation that exceeded my personal target of $1,000. I know this is not a big amount but every dollar counts! The donation drive is still on-going, if you are interested to check out more or pledge your online donation, feel free to click on Hair For Hope 2013.
